Our Story

The Company was initially established in 1975 by Deshabandu, WiswaPrasadini Mr. A. A. D. Gunawardena to manufacture noodles and papadam. Nikado is now a popular household brand name in Sri Lanka producing and marketing a wider range of instant and convenient food products which makelife easy for the busy house wife.

Company’s flag ship product is “Papadam” under the branding “NIKADO” and also pioneered in the manufacture of different verity of rice and wheat flour Noodles. Further to which company alsointroduced to the Sri Lankan Market, Products such as Instant Thosai Mix, Instant Hopper, Instant Rasam Cream and Nikado Mineral Water. Nikado products are a boom and convince to the discerning Sri Lankan Housewife.

The company has won two prestigious international awards ie, Mondale award for Innovative Technology in Frankfurt in 1984 and award for International Quality Foods in Paris in 1987.Company is known for the unparallel quality standards and the high level quality standards. Nikado Company is one of the key players in the market and is in the process of new product development and Research and Development with the view of expanding distribution and profitability. The Company employs more than 200 direct and indirect employees and envisages further expansion utilizing state of the art modern technology.

Establishment of Nikado

Establishment of Nikado company (pvt) ltd by the founder, Mr. A.A.D. Gunawardhana, to manufacture high-quality noodles and papadam.
1977

Introduction of Soy Meat

Introduction of soy meat as a new product number the nikado brand.
1982

Imported Canned Fish & Salt Oorid manufacturing

Introduction of imported canned fish and salt Oorid manufacturing, with distribution throughout the island.
1988

Fruit juice processing plant

Relocation to a fruit juice processing plant.
1991

Salt manufacturing plant & New Rice Noodles

Gradually expanded the brand of Nikado by introducing salt manufacturing plant and New Rice Noodles manufacturing plant.
1992

An Automation Plant Started

An automation plant was set up to speed up the packing and processing of noodles.
1995

Construction of a new production line

Construction of a new production line for manufacturing dry noodles, starting with one machine and gradually expanding to two production line. Increased sales in both the local and export markets, including bottled drinking water.
2007

Established a new mineral water plant

Established a new mineral water plant
2012

Transition to a new milling machine

Transition to a new milling machine to produce high-quality flour products.
2015

New Machines for production line

Adoption of modern technology with the introduction with the introduction of new machines for production line.
2020

Wide range of distribute network

We have been able to distribute our products to nearly 30 countries including Sri Lanka.

About Founder

Starting from a very small place and becoming a world famous brand, the basic foundation was laid by A.A. Gunawardhana, that great man of the era. He was able to go on a successful journey with good planning in an age when technological advancement was not so popular. The steps he took and his vision to survive the Nikado Papadam brand till date are very visionary. He has gone down in history as a person who encouraged many employees to make their way of life and succeed in their livelihood. He is also considered as a person who initiated the construction of many temples in his area as well as in other areas. Also, he has donated houses and real estate for the well-being of many employees of the company. He is an immortal person in the qualities that even the oldest employees in the company still remember and characterize as a loving and humble character.
